Iron(Fe) Chef Competition
The Iron (Fe) Chef comptetition project was a project that was concieved out of the idea of learning scince through cooking. We spent weeks learning about the different types of taste and the science of taste. After that, we watched episodes of Chopped, and Mind of a Chef to learn a bit about the cooking process. We ended up recieveing our ingredients a few weeks after watching these episodes, mine were Sirloin Steak, Cheddar Cheese, Corn, Avocado, and Coca Cola.
What I learned about this was the complexity of cooking, and how it isn't just always reheating food and taking it out of the microwave, and what actual "cuisine" is.I learned about different types of food, and how science affects the flavor of food.
During the actual exhibition, we cooked our food beforehand and simply reheated it, before giving it to the judges to judge. They seemed to like our dish, and one of the judges even said that with the ingredients we were given, he would have made the same exact dish, which really boosted our spirits.
What we made with our ingredients were a Sirloin Steak, brined and marinated in Coca Cola, with a side of corn melted together with cheddar cheese, and a guac-like food to the side of that, making a dish seperated into three different parts.

The Reflection
Some of the things I learned how to do in this project was how to cook vegetabes, meat, and hwo to properly prepare steak. I also learned about the science of taste, thing that I wouldn't have ;earned if i had not taken this class, and taken a regular science class, granted regular science classes don't cook in their class.
What I'm most proud of from this project is what I learned science-wise, since for me I prefer substance over flash, and I feel like cooking was nice but it was a lot of flash and I feel if I had a traditional science class I would have learned more, but not have enjoyed it as much.
If I were to do this again, I Would allow more time for the emeat to heat up in the cooking pot before pulling it out, since that was the main critique point that we recieved when we were presenting.
